One thing Damien hated; being bored. Another thing; being in big crowds of people. Now, those two were two different ideas that usually never go together. But today was one of those days where Damien needed company. But he didn’t feel like being in a crowded place. Even with those thoughts in mind however, he ended up going off to the mall. The last place he ever wanted to be in this world.
Getting out of bed, he stretched, holding back a yawn as he ran a hand over his hair. Turning to his bedside clock, he realized that it was only eight forty-five in the morning. Groaning, he got out of bed before going towards his dresser. He rummaged through until he found a pair of black jeans that he hadn’t worn in a while, but he figured today would be a good day for them. He also managed to hunt down his black hoodie, which he threw over a white T-shirt. Pulling off the basketball shorts he had on, he pulled his jeans on before running a hand through his brown hair. He decided good for now.
Grabbing his phone, he walked out the door, shutting it behind him; his roommate was out for the day. That’s what Damien thought, at least. Walking down the corridors, he wondered what he was supposed to do if he wanted to be in a place that had company for him. He decided that maybe the mall would be good. Good stores, good people, hot chicks, the such. It was a fun life. So with that thought in mind, he headed out towards the main doors.
Transportation. Something he needed. He sighed as he realized slowly that he needed to walk to the mall. Either that or a bus, and he wasn’t willing to get on a bus. He hated them a passion. He didn’t have a reason; he just did. It was in his person to hate buses. So with the running hatred of buses pushing him, he walked down the side into town. Now, the mall wasn’t too far away. It was only about a ten minute walk from the institute. Being in Manhattan meant that you walked a lot. It was something Damien learned a long time ago.
Pretty soon he was in the bustle of the main city. His hands in his pockets, he walked down the street, trying to figure out where he was going to. He got distracted for a few minutes by a sale going on down the street, but quickly lost interest when the woman who was selling things gave him a piercing stare. One that sent shivers down his spine. Giving her a forced smile, he quickened his pace until he reached the mall. Already he knew that there were people there; cars in the lot, people walking in and out of the double doors, it was obvious. And Damien was joining them.
Pushing the double doors open, he walked in. The first thing he smelled; coffee. Starbucks was right there by the main doors, just waiting for the morning rush. Smiling, he quickly walked over, getting into line. Only two or three people were ahead of him, so he was happy about that. He could get his iced coffee without too much waiting. Pretty soon he hit the front of the line, his hands intertwined with each other as he waited off to the side for his drink. He glanced around at the darkened corners, waiting to see if anyone was coming. He grinned when his drink appeared, giving the woman, probably an eighteen or nineteen year old, a flirtatious smirk before giving her his money, telling her to keep the change. With a flick of his hand, he walked out the door through the mall.
He had no idea where he was to go. There were so many possibilities. The first place; sit and drink his wonderful drink. The fountain caught his eye; it was a big one that normally people threw pennies, nickels, and maybe dimes in. Sitting on the edge, he glanced at the coin scattered bottom of the fountain, reaching into his own pocket for a quarter. Tossing it in with a flick of his thumb, he watched the ripple effects of the water before taking a sip of his iced coffee. This was definitely a relaxing morning.
