Some people enjoyed things like thunderstorms and rain clouds. For some, the sun was too hot, and it was so much better when it was concealed by the layer of clouds. There were always those select few people who were allergic to the sun, and it was obvious that they weren't exactly it's biggest fan. However, Jack Cleary was not one of those people. The sun was his best friend, and the darkness and gloomy days were his complete enemies.
Jack enjoyed sunny days more than anything else in the entire world. More than having a million dollars to spend on whatever he wanted, more than meeting his idol; The feeling he got on a sunny day topped them all. And when it was cloudy or rainy or anything that didn't have the sun high up in the sky, he felt like he wanted to die. Isolating himself from the world was the thing he did best on days such as these.
Today was the worst day of the week for Jack; The one day when the sun was not shining. It wasn't too bad; There wasn't rain or anything to that affect. It was just... dark. The sun was concealed by a thick layer of clouds, and almost no light could shine through. And, like always, that simple fact made him feel like the world was on the verge of the apocalypse.
The last thing that Jack wanted to do today was be outside. No matter how many time the doctors and people who worked at the institute told him that would be good for him, he knew what was best. He refused to step outside, not even for a second. And so he found himself in the White Lounge, wrapped up completely in his own thoughts. He wasn't anywhere near comfortable with the outside darkness, but at least he wasn't freaking out about it.

Walking down the halls with nothing to do wasn't all that fun. And that's what Dakota had been doing for the past 20 minutes. So now she was making her way towards the White Lounge. It wasn't her favorite place in the world, but there was bound to be people there. Even if they were people she didn't know.
Turning down the hall way that the White Lounge room was located in, she frowned. Things hadn't been all that amazing lately. Things had actually been pretty crappy. Lost in her thoughts, Dakota almost passed the White Lounge up. Intelligent right?
She walked into the room, the whiteness of the walls making her flinch slightly. No sooner than she was in the room, she noticed a familiar face. Jack. (: She made her way towards him, the frown that had been on her lips moments before, now replaced with a smile. "Heya there buddy."

Jack looked around, desperately searching for something to occupy this time on this worst of all days. There weren't too many people in the White Lounge today, and none of those few people did he knew. He found it kind of awkward; You would think that, after being at this Institute for a certain amount of time, you would know everyone who attended. I guess there were more crazy people than you could keep track of.
Jack stared at the white, white walls. To some people, the complete white-ness of this room was rather uncomfortable, almost unbearable. It wasn't exactly a popular place in this Institute, this room. A lot of people thought that such whiteness was... odd, to say the least. But Jack didn't mind it at all. In fact, he rather liked it. White was a light color, something bright and something that hurt your eyes if you stared at it for too long. Those were the types of things he liked; Not black, or any sort of dark color. The black lounge; Gee, that sounds pleasant.
Jack heard the door of the lounge open and shut, and he didn't bother to turn to see who it was. It wasn't that he already knew; No one was that psychic. He just didn't really care to know; If it was one of his friends, they'd come over and talk to him without him turning to see them. Not two seconds later did he hear someone's voice coming in his direction. He turned, and he smiled at the girl who was coming towards him: Dakota Woods. "Hey." he said, as cheerfully as he could manage. "What's up?"

she shrugged. "Nothing out of the ordinary." She paused. She didn't feel the need of telling him that she had got high with a random dud, then hooked up with him. And then the next day, she made out with Derek in the courtyard. She didn't want him to know these things.
"What about you?" She sat down on the couch by him, crossing her legs under her. She knew the weather outside was probably not sunny, since Jack was inside. She personally liked the rainy and cloudy weather. She always tended to get burnt in the sun, and then her skin would end up looking almost the same color as her hair. That was never good.

Jack watched her shrug, and heard her answer. The thing was, he never exactly knew what was the ordinary thing for Dakota. She was always so spontaneous and hyper; You never really knew what she'd do next. But, instead of questioning further, he just nodded. He wouldn't want to be pestered about things like that, so he didn't pester her. "Well, that's always good." he said, smiling lightly at her.
Jack was truly glad that Dakota was here. Dakota was one of his really good friends, and he always had a good time around her. Even when it was dark and gloomy outside, he had a fairly good time; Well, as good a time as he could have in a day like that. He shrugged when she asked him what was up with him. "Eh... This is pretty much the most I've done all day." he said.

She shook her head. "It's been really boring." She crinkled her nose. He was always so depressed when the weather was bad. She didn't even know why. She shrugged it off. "I haven't really had a life since before the past 2 days. And then my life was WHAM." She grinned at him again.
She raised one eyebrow at him, hitting his shoulder playfully. "Silly goose. Why didn't you come get me? We could have had a party." She smiled at him. "Parties are oodles and noodles of fun." Jack always amused her. When it was sunny, he was more amusing. But he was always fun to be with. (:

Jack made a face when she said that her life had been really boring. "Come on." he pushed. "I know that's a lie. The life of Dakota Woods is never boring." He said, and let out a little laugh. That was a lie, of course; Everyone's life was boring at one point or the other. But it always seemed like Dakota was having more fun than anyone else at any given time. He laughed at her little outburst. "See?" he said. "Now I know your lying. WHAM is pretty exciting, if you ask me."
He rubbed his shoulder after he hit her, pretending to be hurt. "Oww." he whined. "What, a bored party?" he asked when she said that they could have had a party"Oh, that will be oodles of fun." he said, obviously sarcastic and copying what she said. He laughed. "Well, we could always have a party now." he suggested.

She frowned, hearing him ask about it. "Well.. uh.." She didn't really know what to say. She wasn't sure if she wanted him to know, but then she figured he would find out anyways. "Well, I got high with this guy.. and we uh.. hooked up. And then me and Derek kinda kissed.. and.." She let her voice trail off, remembering she was talking to Jack. She didn't want him to know everything. That wouldn't be good.
"Yeah, but it wouldn't be a bored party with me there, now would it?" She smirked at him, but it turned to a playful glare when he said it would oodles of fun. She opened her eyes in excitment. "We could! Let's do it!"

Jack had never really expected for Dakota to go into detail about her weekend; He never expected her to tell him as much as she did, anyway. He raised his eyebrows at her, and he instantly felt kind of uncomfortable. Comfortable in a sense, because she felt comfortable enough with him that she would tell him these kinds of things. But uncomfortable in a major way, because he kind of had a thing for Dakota. Still, there was no way he was letting her know now.
"Oh.." he said, in response to the events of her past few days. "Thats... um... nice." he said, for lack of anything else to say. He tried to shake his expression of the uncomfortable air that it had just taken on. He let out a slight, shaky laugh. "Of course." he said, smiling as best he could at him. Her excitement made him laugh for real, and he got up from where he had been sitting. "Sure." he said. "There's nothing better to do."

Dakota frowned, biting the corner of her bottom lip softly. She hadn't meant to go into that much detail, but it was so easy to talk to Jack. And she really didn't want him to star thinking things. Why couldn't things just be easier? Like no drama? But of course, that would never happen. The world revolves around drama.
She shook her head at him. "Not really." Hearing the small laugh that came after it, probably made her feel worse that anyting. She didn't even know why. It kind of made her think that she hurt him in a way. she stood up when he did, pushing the thought that had previously been in her head out of her head. "Alright. What do you want to do during this bored party? And where are we gonna have the bored partyy?"

Jack tried hard to not let Dakota know how uncomfortable he was. It was nice that she trusted him enough to tell him everything, it really was. Still, it made him feel uncomfortable, and he couldn't exactly pinpoint the reason why. He'd always felt uncomfortable with that kind of thing, no matter how much he hated that fact.
Jack could tell from Dakota's face that this moment was just as awkward for her as it was for him; Maybe even more so. He didn't mean to make it like that. In fact, that was the one thing he was trying to avoid. He was glad when she changed the subject, just because he probably would have had to find a way to do just that in a matter of seconds, had she not already done it. "Um... I don't know." he said. "Do you want it to be just us cool people, or more cool people?" he asked.

She glanced down at the ground, frowning slightly. Things were so awkward now, but she couldn't figure out exactly why. Like, she knew why.. but kinda didn't know why they were so awkward. It was kinda weird. She quickly snapped out of her thoughts to hear him ask who she wanted there.
"Hmm.. Just us cool people. It's hard to find people as cool as us." She smiled weakly at him, still not fully recovered from the severe awkwardness of that last conversation. She bit her lip slightly, looking around the white lounge.

As the awkwardness continued, Jack felt sucky for even letting Dakota know how awkward he felt in the beginning. Why hadn't he just let it go? It's not like his letting her know that he was uncomfortable would have changed anything anyway. You can't turn back time. Still... he couldn't really help it.
He let out a laugh, trying his hardest to make it stronger and get some of the awkwardness that Dakota was obviously feeling away. "Well, obviously." he said. "We're too cool for our own good." he smiled at her, trying to make her smile, too. "So where should this cool party be located?"

She sighed, still feeling awkward. "Hmm.. This is severely awkward." She scratched the back of her head, biting her lip softly. She still wasn't exactly sure why it was really awkward, but she shrugged it off, and looked back at him.
She nodded at him slightly. "We're way too cool for our own good. No one even compares to our coolness." She thought for a few seconds, putting her finger on her lip. "I have no idea." She paused, looking at him. "Where do you think we should have this uber cool bored party?"

Jack let out a little laugh at her acknowledgment of the awkwardness of the moment. Sure, it was awkward, probably for her as much as it was for him. However, he didn't want to make her feel that way. "It is." he said. "So let's make it un-awkward. How's about that party?"
He smiled when she said that no one compared to their coolness. He made a face, pretending to be shocked. "Not even, like, Arnold Schwarzenegger? He's pretty cool." He grinned. In reality, he just thought that the governor of California was just some weird guy with huge muscles and an accent. He thought about it for a second. "I don't know." he concluded. "There's the possibility of one of our dorms. But the roommates might be there, and we don't want them to interfere with our coolness."
