Jade opened the door to Borders. The ring of the bell made her smile. She had never been to Borders before. All she knew was that it was a book store. She walked in and looked around. The enviroment felt relaxed and calm. Just what Jade wanted on a day like this. She hadnt slept all night and this morning she looked like a wreck. Looking down at her outfit, she frowned. She was wearing a pair of black sweatpants that were too long on her short legs. She was wearing a grey 'Pittsburgh Steelers' hoodie. Her hair was pulled back in a messy bun and a pair of large sunglasses sat on her face.
Pulling off her sunglasses, she sat them on the top of her head. She walked down an isle of books. There were hardly any people there and the ones that were there, Jade didnt know. She was actually happy of this. She didnt want anyone to see her looking like such a wreck. Getting lost in her thoughts, she almost forgot why she was there. Jade smiled when she remembered. Her copy of Twilight had finally given out and the cover ripped off. She was on a mission to buy a new copy. She walked to the Young Adult section and searched for the M's. Meyers, she thought to herself. Finally she found Twilight. Picking it up, she examined the book. It was a paperback version, just like her old one.
Jade looked through the books for a hardback verison. She couldnt find one. Frowning, she walked to the front desk. She handed the clerk her book and smiled at him. He rang up the book and offered her a free bookmark. Jade accepted it and muttered a thank you. She pulled out 20 dollars and handed it to the man. The guy gave her some change and Jade shoved i into her pocket. Taking her book she walked over to some couches. She sat down, pulling her legs to her chest. She set the book on her knees and opened it to a random page. She smiled as she read in her head. "Edward in the sunlight was shocking, I couldnt get used to it,though I'd been staring at him all afternoon."Jade glanced up from her book and looked around. No one seemed to be there. She shrugged and looked back down at her book.

Stefanie Dymek had never been one for reading. She did it when she absolutely had to, like for a book report or summer reading or something. However, it was definitely not something that she did for fun. If she was bored, she would much rather play a video game or listen to her iPod than read. Obviously, Borders book store wasn't some place where she was found very often, simply because of that face.
Even though reading wasn't something she normally did, she found herself at Borders on this particular day. There was a book that some people had said she had to read, something about vampires. Even though reading wasn't exactly her idea of fun, the whole vampire-love storyline was right up her alley. And so she, clad in her comfortable sweatpants and tank top, with her hair in a messy ponytail and a Boston Red Sox hat covering the top of her head, headed to Borders to buy that one book.
She headed over to the teen section, where that person had said the book would be located. The writer's name was Stephenie Meyer; The only reason she remembered that was because they had the same name. Apparently the book was one of three, and the one she was looking for was called 'Twilight'. She finally found the author among the teen books, and searched for Twilight. To her utter dismay, there were only two books among those written by Stephenie Meyer: New Moon and Eclipse, not Twilight.
Frustrated, she walked over on the couches and plopped down. She let out a groan of anger as she did so, before realizing that she wasn't the only one there. Another girl in a Pittsburgh Steelers hoodie and sweatpants was there, her head stuck in a book. Stef looked at the cover and groaned again. Of course, it was Twilight. "Damn it." she muttered. "You must have taken the last one."

Jade was lost in her thoughts. She was staring at the book. She wasnt actually reading it. She had probably read about Edward shining in the sun, 50 times. She sighed and closed the book. Hearing a voice she looked up. She recognized the girl as her roommate. Jade had to have her room changed because her old roommate left and they didnt want her to be alone. So, the paired her in a room with Stefanie Dymek.
Jade hadnt really talked to Stefanie but once or twice. She bit her lip, hoping Stefanie was nice. She seemed to be aggravated and Jade just looked at her. "Im sorry." Jade looked down. She hated disappointing people. "You can borrow it whenever you want." She held the book out to Stefanie to emphasize her point. She really didnt care if Stefanie borrowed the book. It wasnt a big deal to her.
Jade shifted in her seat. She felt uncomfortable. Jade avoided eye contact with the girl. When she looked at the girl she couldnt help but think that they both looked a lot alike. They both had long black hair, side bangs, and they seemed to have similar style. Jade bit her lip as she waited for Stefanie to say something.

Stef examined the girl in the Steelers sweatshirt once again as she closed the book and sighed. It was only then that she actually recognized the girl sitting next to her. Not only was it someone who went to the Institute with her, but it was Jade Craemer, her room mate. They hadn't been roommates for too long; Stef's old one had left and they moved Jade in to take her place. They didn't really talk much, but Stef still felt bad for getting aggravated with her.
Stef watched Jade looked down, almost as if she were disappointed, or uncomfortable. Maybe even both. They didn't really talk, and obviously this girl didn't really know whether Stef was this bitchy all the time, and what to do in the situation. She felt bad when the girl held out the book to her, offering to let her borrow it. "No." she said. "Really, it's ok. You read it; I just got aggravated. I can wait until they have more books in stock."
Stef continued looking at her roommate, and it was only then that she realized what everyone said was true; The two did look almost exactly alike. It was almost like they were twins, separated at birth. They both had dark, dark, black hair with side bangs, and they had a similar sense of style. There was more than one occasion when Stef's friends had come over to her, saying that they had mistaken her roommate for her. "Hey" she said, trying to lighten the mood that she had created. "Did you realize that we look like twins?" she joked. "Maybe it's like the parent trap."

Jade looked at the ground. She didnt know Stefanie that well so instinctively she didnt trust her. For all Jade knew, this girl was an axe murderer. She didnt know why Stefanie was even at Kailyn. Jade just shrugged. She looked at Stefanie and tried to smile at her. Her mouth didnt even move.
Jade shook her head. She loooked up at Stefanie. "Its okay. You can borrow it. Ive already read it a billion times." Jade shrugged. "I almost have it memorized." She smiled, proudly. Then she quickly slapped her hand over her mouth. She cursed to herself under her breathe. Jade rolled her eyes. Stefanie probably thought she was some insane weirdo.
Jade thought to herself. It almost amazed her how much they looked alike. Many times Stefanies friends had thought Jade was Stefanie. She listened to Stefanie talk and she shrugged. "We do look like twins." She didnt know what to think about it. "Maybe. Though, the Parent Trap is over played and I dont really like it. Lindsay Lohan gets on my nerves." She looked down. That was the most she had talked at one time in a long time.

Stef watched Jade's expressions as she talked to her, and she was a bit surprised. This girl seemed almost like she was scared of her, and everything around her. Like she didn't trust her, although Stef hadn't really given her any reason to. Still, it was kind of odd. They were living together in the same room for God's sake. You'd think that it wouldn't be that awkward.
Stef listened to Jade talk about how she'd read it a million times and she'd already had it memorized. "Wow." she said in awe. "It must be really good." she took the book from the other girl and smiled. "Thanks." she said. And then Jade smiled, but quickly covered it by putting her hand over her mouth and cursing. Stef gave her a look; Was it really that hard for the girl to smile?
Stef listened to the girl talk, and watched her expressions as she did so. That was the biggest difference between the two girls who looked so much alike: Their personalities. Stef was out there, hyper, and spastic, while Jade barely even talked. That was how Stef knew that they definitely weren't twins separated at birth; They were too different. "I like the older version." Stef offered, trying to turn the conversation to a better topic.

Jade watched the girl. She didnt know what to say or do. She felt uncomfortable and yet at the same time comfortable. Jade shrugged. She was confusing herself. "So..." She bit her lip.
Jade listened to the girl. Stefanie took the book from her and Jade nodded. "It is really good. I think you'll like it." Jade noticed Stefanie give her a look. Jade frowned. She knew that was it. The girl had branded her a weirdo. Jade looked at the ground. She couldnt help it. She wanted to stand up and scream but she knew she couldnt.
Jade felt like the girl was staring her down. She bit her lip. When Stefanie finally spoke, Jade shook her head. "I never saw the older version." She shrugged. She barely watched tv. Most of the time she spent alone, listening to music or writing or mainly thinking. She thought about everything and anything. Jade could tell that Stefanie was hyper and out of control while she herself had enough control for 12 people.

Stef looked down at her nails, inspecting them for lack of anything else to do. It was awkward, to extreme levels. She wasn't really sure what to do or say with this girl, unfortunately. It was sad, because out of all people, they should be the closest. They lived with each other for God's sake!
Stef looked down at the cover of the book, looking it over. Underneath the title, there were two hands cupped together, holding a bright red apple. She looked at it questioningly; It seemed like an interesting title, and she couldn't quite pick out it's significance, if there was any at all. She looked back up at the girl and threw her an encouraging smile. "I'm sure I will. Everyone I've talked to who read it said it was great." she said.
Stef looked at Jade and watched her bite her lip, the classic trademark of a nervous person. Stef felt bad; Obviously, she wasn't making this any easier for her. "Really?" she asked. "I should rent it sometime.. Maybe we could watch it together? On a rainy day, or something." she offered. She was trying to be nice, and that seemed like a good enough solution.

Jade watched the girl looking at her nails. Jade frowned. She felt like she had failed once again. What she wanted to do was pull out the extra sharp scissors she had in her pocket and break her skin. She couldnt do that with Stefanie right there though. Jade rubbed her left arm. That was where most of the cuts were. The cuts that no one knew about but her.
She watched Stefanie examine the book. Jade tilted her head to the side. She wasnt sure if she should say something or not. Stefanie spoke and Jade smiled. She looked at the ground. "Its really good." Anyone could see the enthusiasm in Jade's eyes. "Its my favorite book ever." Jade looked at Stefanie and bit her lip.
Jade watched the girl. She nodded when she said really. Jade looked around the bookstore. No one else had come in and Jade was actually glad. When Stefanie offered to rent the movie and watch it with her, Jade looked at her. She smiled for a split second. "That sounds like fun." It did sound like fun to her and she needed to have some fun.

Stefanie instantly felt bad for ignoring the girl, even the slightest bit. She knew it wasn't the least bit more comfortable for Jade than it was for her, and she wasn't making it easier. She looked up to say something, and saw Jade subconsciously run her left arm. Stef looked at it questioningly, but kept quiet. Maybe it was a sore subject, and she didn't want to bring up anything bad.
Stef looked up at Jade when she spoke about the book, and she saw the excitement in her eyes as she said some things about it. "I can tell." she said, smiling. "It's my friend's favorite, too. She says that she's, like, in love with the main character or something. I love vampire romance novels. she explained.
Stefanie watched Jade looked around the book store, and she mimicked her action. There didn't seem to be too many other people in Borders today, and there definitely wasn't another person with the two of them. It was kind of nice, because they could talk alone. But, at the same time it wasn't so nice, because it made everything that much more awkward. She smiled when Jade said it sounded like fun. "Cool. Next rainy day, we'll definitely do that." she said.

Jade pulled her sleeve down her left arm so that it was covering her hand. She didnt want to take any chances of Stefanie seeing her arm. Jade cleared her throat. She noticed Stefanie watching her and Jade shrugged.
Jade listened to Stefanie talk. She let out a small laugh. "Edward. " She sighed. "Just wait, you'll love him soon enough." She covered her mouth and giggled. She knew that the girl probably thought she was weird because of her laughing habits. Jade shrugged again. She made up a lie. "I dont like my laugh."
Jade looked back at Stefanie and nodded. "Yeah. Thatll be fun." She shrugged. "Ive never had a roommate." She looked at the ground and then back at Stefanie. "Ive honestly never really had... a friend." She bit her lip, hoping Stefanie wouldnt judge her. "So, Im sorry if I do any of this wrong."

Stef saw Jade pull down the sleeve of the arm that she was rubbing so it was completely covering the arm, obscuring it from vision. She found it kind of odd; There was only one or two reasons that she could think of that would make someone want to cover their arm like that. They did, however, make sense; It could be the reason that Jade was stuck in that place like the rest of them.
She heard the small, quiet laugh that Jade let out when she was talking about the main character. Edward, apparently, was the name of the character that she was referring to. She smiled. "I'm sure I will. Everyone I've talked to said that they've lost their taste in men because this character is so perfect." she laughed again, much more freely and loudly than Jade had. She watched her cover her mouth again, and listened to her explanation. "It's ok." she said. "My laugh gets on my nerves sometimes, too."
Stef nodded and smiled at the other girl. She honestly seemed kind of excited about that, and Stef was glad to help out. What Jade said next kind of surprised Stef. Something about never really having a friend before, and apologizing in advance for doing anything wrong. "Seriously?" she asked. She was surprised; Jade seemed like a nice girl. "You don't have to worry about doing anything wrong; Just be yourself." she said.

Jade looked back up at Stefanie. She was trying to figure out why she was here. Stefanie could be anorexic but she didnt look skinny enough. She bit her lip. Stefanie didnt really have anything wrong, physically. Jade wanted to ask her why she was at Kailyn but she knew that would be rude.
Jade listened to her talk. She kept her hand over her mouth so she wouldnt smile. She nodded at her. "He is perfect." She nodded again to make her point. "I'd date him." She giggled slightly. When Stefanie said her laugh got on her nerves, Jade couldnt help but smile. Stefanie was being so nice to her. "Laughs are weird."
Jade shrugged at Stefanie when she asked if she was serious. Sadly, Jade was completely serious. "My mom never...." She looked down at her arm and bit her lip. "I'll just be myself then." She tried to smile but she couldnt let Stefanie see her smile. Jade wasnt exactly sure who she was so being herself felt like being someone else.

Stefanie looked at Jade staring back at her, almost as if she was trying to read her, or figure something out about her. Stef wasn’t exactly a complicated person; More of a ‘what you see is what you get’ kind of deal. Maybe she was trying to figure out just what Stef was there for; She knew that, at first glance, it didn’t really seem like anything was wrong. Sure, she was really skinny, but she ate. And she did eat, she just didn’t keep it in her system for too long after that, not that many people other than herself knew that…
Stef watched Jade, her hand still firmly over her mouth, as if trying to keep herself from saying anything stupid or showing any signs of emotion that might give herself away. She let out a deep sigh. ”Seriously, I want to read this book more and more. I want to see just how perfect this vampire guy is.” she smiled. Stef felt herself smile when she watched Jade do the same; It was almost as if she had accomplished some sort of mission when the other girl bared her teeth. ”Yeah. They are.”
Stef had never felt more sympathy or pity for any one person than she felt for Jade at that moment. To think that the poor girl had never had a real friend; It was sad. She couldn’t even think of what her childhood must have been like; She was sure miserable was a complete understatement. She listened to what she started to say about her mother, and when she stopped, it made Stef come to the assumption that maybe something had happened to the girl’s mom. It was a sad thought. ”That’s good.” Stef said, once Jade said that she’d just be herself. ”Because, from what I can see, you’re a cool person.”

Jade sighed. She wasnt sure. She looked at her and smiled. "Do you...mind if I ask..." She hesitated. She didnt know what to do. "Why your here?" She bit her lip. Jade just hoped that Stefanie didnt think she was being rude.
She watched the girl sigh and Jade bit her lip. She wondered what the girl was thinking. When Stefanie started to speak, Jade dropped her hand and listened. "Well, you can read it whenever. Just give it back when your done." She laughed slightly. She just nodded at Stefanie when she agreed.
Jade thought that Stefanie looked sad. Like she felt sorry for her. Jade shook her head. She shouldnt have said anything about her mom. She shrugged. When Stefanie said it was good, Jade nodded. When Stefanie said she seemed cool, her mouth dropped open. "Really?" Jade didnt think she was even remotely close to cool.
